No my kids no asthma.... And I do not know if Zach has any allergies. I hope not!! If not I will have to give the dog up. So far nothing. When the Poodle is back, I will monitor closely.

Yeah its so cute....

siron: i hope i got a wrong judgement but looking at all ur input, i had a feeling tat u r buying tis doggie on impulse. wat if down the road tis doggie is no longer as cute as b4? or the so called 'toy' breed turn out to be giantic? or the kid n dog simply can't get along..... i dunno, but pls prove me wrong.

even a minature maltese..if overfed...it will grow too...and end up no so minture. Small animals have smaller organs..so must be gentle hor...no over eat hor...
With smaller organs, complication arise when they get older too...

Let's give Siron the benefit of the doubt.

But I tell you as an ex- dog owner, rearing a dog is a very exhausting affair. It is like bring up a baby for 10 years (depends on llifespan of dog).

And in the later years of its life, it is like taking care of an aged parent, as it gets sick often and visits to the vet are frequent (and very expensive too. 3 digit bills are the norm), and when it comes to the final stage where it gets blind or becomes senile and does not even recognise you. Or it cannot control its bowels and just poos even as it is lying down (leg no strength to squat to poo). And you have to clean its poo stuck in its anus.

Very Sadly, most owners choose the easy way out by putting their dogs to sleep.

yes, 3 digit bill are the norm.... at least putting it down is a more humane way (of coz sad) of ending its suffering but some ppl juz choose to abandon, give away coz putting it down need $ n cremation need $ or disposal oso need $.

there is 2 "special" dogs living in the same block as me.

one big dog, not sure of breed.. but it looks like beethovan but old and skinny.. i think it got skin problems, thus, damn smelly.. whenever it takes the lift..the owner needs to spray air freshener into the lift but still it will stink. even after 10mins! not sure if the owner dun bother to clean the dog or the smell is really permanent..but really buay tahan.

the other special dog is an old, sickly dog. can see the skin really very jialad..legs very weak..cannot walk oredi.. so the owner will carry it downstairs let it poo/pee then carry back.. see liaoz.. very poor thing..

though it might be seem as cruel, but putting it to sleep might be a better option? it could be suffering while alive leh?

I would never abondon my dogs no matter what... so putting them to sleep is only the last resort if it's the only option of making them feel better than to suffer in sickness...

One of the best memories are during the time when there are young and learning where to pee and poo... as well as getting adjusted to ourlife style..... their so call growing up year....

Went thru a lot of with my darlings.... and it's those experiences that makes us bond with them as well... be it naughty or nice...

Always rem... give them more more more time and be patient with them... as long as u're firm and strict with them... they will not give u problems and u will enjoy their company ever more....

Lastly.... everyone starts from being a 1st-time owner... and no matter how prepared we are or how many advices given by friends other pet owners... as 1st time owners... there are bound to have times where u feel fustrated.... but bear with it.... juz like babies who woke in the middle of nite for milk... it will soon pass...

Once again... can always look for me if u need any help.... msn or call me also can..... ;)

something to add, don't give poodles rice, otherwise they would develop skin problems...

siron, like some of the forumers stated, old aged doggie can be a bit problematic to look after, so be prepared, physically and psychologically... when my poodle got old, I feel sad for her... teeths all gone, can only feed her with "soft" stuffs... tongue keeps sticking out... and later on, her vision got worse, luckily she can still smell me... she also developed skin problems, others find her smelly, but I find it okay, maybe gotten used to it over the yrs... but when she passed away, I still feel very sad :(

Make sure the ears are clean else they will get infected and add evening primrose oil into their food too.

It is cheaper to use the human version, cos I don't understand why vitamin supplements for dogs are more expensive that those for humans.

Don't forget to comb your poddle's hair EVERYDAY too, else you get problem if hair n=becomes entangled.

And remmeber to send it to the groomerto trim the hair when necessary, about once every 3 months.

I pay $8 to get my hair cut but it costs $80 for my dog's hair to be cut.

Thanks Guys....

Anyway I de not get the dog out of impluse lah. I've been considering for a long time. I always love dogs. I've had a pet dog before but it got hit by a car when we were overseas. Very sad. Haizzzz. On this Toy Poodle. One of the main reason why I bought it ultimately is due to my kids. They love dogs. Time to give my daughter some responsibilties to handle. And Zach seems so amazed by small dogs all the time. Of cuz my wife is also a dog lover. She's home most of the time. So looking after Teddie will be very ideal. Done quite some homework since then, but still slot to read I supposed. Afterall the last pet dog I had was ages ago.

Angie. Yes that's the Hotdog staff and it's a him. Why ya wanna find out this??
