I am in Hong Kong for the long weekend. I have lots of friends from Singers working in Hong Kong. We catch up occasionally up here for lunch and a spot of shopping. Lets use this thread to share yr experience and tis about Hong Kong so that others may benefit and follow yr footsteps when they visit the Fragrant Harbour next!

I am staying at the Landmark Mandarin Oriental, smacked in the middle of town, within walking distance to the IFC and next to Landmark Shopping Centre. The lobby of the hotel is quite small actually. I suppose this is different from other big hotels as this one is like a boutique hotel. This is is also different from the original MO which is witin walking distance to this one, where that Leslie jumped off the 21st floor! |

The rooms however are humoungous! The largest in town. Each room comes with a sitting area, a bedroom and a toilet. It is practically a studio apartment minus the kitchen. This is the sitting area. |

Sitting area viewed from the window side. You see the entrance to the room in the background. It is quite beautifully furnished in an understated elegant contemporary style. |

The bedroom with a kingsized bed. To the right is a small walkin wardrobe with a mirrored sliding door. |

From this angle in the bedroom you see the living area and the toilet which is enclosed behind a circular wall. The top 1/3 of the circular wall is glassed up. The toilet is huge! This is a very interesting room design. |

The toilet as I said is huge. There is a huge round bathtub in the middle. There is also a huge shower cubicle in the background behind the tub. The windows are flow to ceiling and when the roller blinds are drawn up, you can see the neighbouring office building! |

I am not rich. I am just a clever traveller. The room cost about S$700 or $800 a night but I pay for 2 nights and get 1 night free because of my Amex card. Remember can afford to spend on accomodation because my airticket was free. |

The hotel by the way is super central! I walk everywhere to the shops, IFC, HMV. It is in the best location in Hong Kong. |

I even have job interview across the street from my hotel tomorrow! I dont even have anything to wear! I have to do panic shopping tomorrow morning. I shall arrange for the interview to be in the afternoon. Some local HK law firm wants to meet me. I will go and see how lah. If they offer me good position you never know. Then I move to HK! |

Actually, this trip is quite exciting as I am doing things I have never done before, such as trying new restaurants. My friends brought me to these places. Last night, we had dinner at Hunan Garden, in a building opposite the IFC. I have never tried hunan cuisine before. It is very spicy and reminds me of the spicy cuisine in Yunnan. THis is what we ate last nite. From top left, clockwise, fried long beans with olives, bowl of beef with very spicy soup (almost like mongolian hotpot), fried chicken with chili, shrimps with chiili, assorted mushrooms and peanuts, and finally fried eggplant with yellow pea sauce. All in all it was an interesting dining experience as it was a new taste I had never savoured before. |

Today I went to the Hong Kong COnvention Centre to visit the largest Art Fair in Asia. The fair was sponsored by Lehman Brothers and I had free tickets because my friend works for Lehman. The convention centre is at the water front and the view of the Hong Kong skyline from the convention centre is nothing short of stunning despite the fact that in the afternoon, the sky was not so clear. n the background you can see the IFC Building, the tallest in Hong Kong. It will soon be superceded by a new building which is coming up in Kowloon! |
