Not been to crystal design centre. Actually the weather is pretty cool now. It was very comfortable dining on the rooftop! The other rooftop restaurant is on the Lebua Tower. I tried that last year.

No other furniture purchased yet. This flat will be sparsely furnished. I think we got all the major purchases done. Yes I believe this flat shd be quite classy. My painting that I bought at the Christie's auction last autumn in Hong Kong will find a home here. I'm basically tompang the wall ie borrow the space. It's a huge painting almost 4m wide. As this flat will be loft like, we intend to hv it look like some gallery.

The flat will hv certain features which I hv never used before. I intend to use steel mirrors for the ceiling for the living room. The whole idea is to increase the volume for the living room. This is the solution or reaction to the stupidly low beam. This would be an interesting experiment but it shd work. Basically the ceiling on one side of the flat will disappear!!! Pics to be provided later.

This is the inspiration for the reflective ceiling. It's the ceiling of the Presidential Suite if the HK Ritz Carlton Hotel. Notice how it gives the illusion of a higher ceiling. Well we feel the we need it for this flat because of that low level stupid beam. I don't know why hdb designs their flats with such features. The beam is presenting formidable design challenges for me in this flat.

Depending on cost, I might use the same reflective mirror above the bath tub! There is going to be a stand alone bath tub with a jacuzzi in this flat which will contrast against thise red tiles. It will be ridiculously luxe.

Since the tiles are available in KL I might fly to KL next week. See how. Hmmm.

Oh! You are welcome to tompang paintings at my place any time! I have plenty of white walls.

Agree how stupidly low HDB ceilings are. Think ceilings should be at least 3 m tall, 3.3 m if possible. Makes living in a small space much more bearable.

The mirrors are also very kinky! Like some Japanese love hotels room pics I've seen. Am sure you'll make it look classy of course, just that mirrors on ceiling have the love hotel association in my (dirty) mind.

You may like to pop by CDC. My friend said it's like the equivalent of Park Mall - could be fun to browse.

Btw ongoing sales at Marquis & XTRA. FYI in case there are any minor accessories needed for the flat:

Managed to find distributor for the Spanish red tiles for the bathroom in Singapore! And they hv stock.

As all the approvals hv been obtained from HDB, work can now proceed full steam ahead! Wall separating bedroom and kitchen is now gone! Yay! The bedroom wall will be shifted into the original kitchen area. We will build the wardrobe in the original kitchen area so that the size of the bedroom will be enlarged. The kitchen will cease to be used as a kitchen.

The bathroom wall completely demolished. This is almost de javu. It's like Tiong Bahru all over again. The flat will be reconstructed from scratch.

Viewed from the kitchen wall. Note that very low beam that cuts the flat into 2 halves. That's my design challenge. It may be very difficult to overcome. I just hv to accept it and embrace it.

The view from the front windows to the kitchen gives a sense of the depth of the apartment. We will try to keep this openness so that we get light coming in from all windows into the flat.
But the view from the kitchen will be partially blocked by the wardrobe.

Hi Lieb,

Am eagerly waiting to see the finished product!
Glad all the hacking has been approved!
Are you planning to extend the bathroom? Did you encounter any issues with HDB in the application to hack the toilet walls?

I've also just began my renovation and had applied to hack the walls of my master bathroom to make it bigger but it has been rejected.
We're going to appeal but was just wondering if you have any tips or advice to share that will help ensure the approval of the extension of the bathroom.

Thanks!

hi loob, do you intend to stay in this flat for long? Cos if you intend to sell or rent out in future, my advise is do not hack cos you will have difficulty selling or renting out. Still your choice and decision. I'm just sharing from experiences that my friends experienced.

Do share with us your concept drawings. Really looking forward to see how you'll transform the space. :)

Dream Interiors and Proof Living are having sales (preview) now. Too bad you are away. Maybe you can browse the catalogs anyway? Have a look at my blog for details.
If not, I spent hours on the Nostraforma site browsing thru their huge lighting selection during my reno. Flat shipping fee to Singapore and prices will exclude the 19% tax that is reflected.

Loobeedoobeeroo- yr contractor shd know how much extension is allowed. For all my projects I got hdb approval. Each project is different and hdb assesses it on a case by case basis. What hdb is concerned about is usually the separation of the wet area from the dry area. There is a certain amount of extnsion allowed by hdb for extension of the bathroom. I don't know how much exactly but you shd get yr contractor to liaise with hdb. For Tiong Bahru I went to present my case to hdb itself to get approval for my toilet. I used sliding doors to ensure confinement of wet areas . You hv to read my Tiong Bahru thread on the issues relating to my toilet. It was complicated. But I got the hdb approval.

Just- what if the person who buys yr flat likes what you hv done to yr flat? Do you need to reinstate?
Adidaem- thx for the info but my Fren is on a serious budget now as the Reno will not be cheap! It's very fancy, what with the out of the box ideas we are experimenting with. But essentially the flat shd still look loft like.
