27 April 2010 opening, I wonder whether MBS consulted Chinese alamac or geomancer. Ang moh got such thing or not?

Haha, took a while for me to understand.  27 April 2010 = 14th day of the 3rd lunar month.  Qing Ming Period.

flipper: you very sharp de!

Either they don't believe or do ritual to overcome adverse forces.
MBS cannot delay, got licence open, also there's competition from RWS.

Once in a cab passing MBS IR, the taxi driver commented: "Doesn't it look like an altar on 3 stands? Gambler sure lose."

There's many people commenting that the alter look-alike shape of the Sands IR is a jinx located within close proximity to Singapore's financial district and that would bring misfortune to the country.

I hope it is not true.

haha i think surely consulted geomancers lah, even the entire suntec city was designed based on recommendations by geomancers. that said, i do hope the opening of MBS will not be rough as that of RWS, otherwise it's really a double whammy for the publicity of our IRs to the world.

From http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/1051585/1/.html,

World's first curved double helix bridge opens at Marina Bay on April 24
By Hetty Musfirah Abdul Khamid | Posted: 21 April 2010 1321 hrs

SINGAPORE: The world's first double helix curved bridge in Marina Bay will open to the public this Saturday (April 24) at 9.30pm.

The pedestrian bridge is set to transform Singapore's city landscape, and serve as a key link to the second integrated resort, Marina Bay Sands.

A walk along this 280-metre long bridge promises to be a treat to an architectural marvel that took two years to complete.

It has not been given a name yet.

But it'll be well-known - as an engineering feat that's assembled with great precision, using a special stainless steel to withstand corrosion.

The steel tubes form the minor and major helix that spiral in opposite directions. In fact, if all the steel tubes forming the major and minor helix are laid end to end, it will measure 2,250 metres long - almost the length of the 2.4 kilometres fitness run.

The pedestrian bridge is centrally located just beside the floating platform at Marina Bay. And in the future, it will offer you a direct link to the Marina Bay Sands integrated resort.

It will probably take less than five minutes to walk the entire length of the bridge. While doing so, one will be able to admire the city skyline and the entire structure of the bridge.

The link to Marina Bay Sands integrated resort is still cordoned for now. It will open when Phase 2 of the IR opens this June.

Fun Siew Leng, Group Director of Urban Planning and Design, Urban Redevelopment Authority, says: "In terms of people coming by the MRT, the promenade station has just been opened, so people coming from the station can get to the bay front avenue through the pedestrian bridge.

"And when the Promenade is completed by the middle of this year, together with this bridge, it will form a 3.5-kilometre pedestrian loop around the whole bay."

When the lights come on at night, the bridge will take on a different look.

The lighting feature can be programmed to create various moods for different celebrations.

At its entrance is Singapore's first art park - the Youth Olympic Park - where works sit as a symbol of the inaugural games this August.

Motorists will be able to use a new vehicular bridge, just beside the double helix bridge, from 3pm on Sunday (April 25).

Both bridges and the Youth Olympic Park will officially open at 8pm on Saturday, complete with performances and pyrotechnic display.

The total cost for all 3 new features is about $82.9 million.

Bayfront Bridge opens, allows direct link between Marina Centre & Marina South
By Satish Cheney | Posted: 25 April 2010 1854 hrs

SINGAPORE : The Bayfront Bridge at Marina Bay was officially opened to traffic on Sunday.

The bridge is next to the iconic The Helix pedestrian walkway which was officially opened to the public on Saturday night.

Vehicles were allowed onto the Bayfront Bridge at 3pm on Sunday.

The bridge provides a direct connection between Marina Centre and Marina South.

Many people also turned up to check out The Helix which is a world's first in terms of engineering design and architecture.

Pedestrians planning to cross from Marina Centre to the Bayfront area can also use The Helix to get to the Marina Bay Sands integrated resort from June. - CNA/ms

My friend went to Marina Bay Sands casino opening the other day. He was so pleased. It was so much more organised and the place was huge with lots of room. As I suspected, the experience of the Sands will make the visitor feel much more comfortable and pleasant. I wont visit the Sentosa one but I am looking forward to try out the Marina Sands.

Lieb: I have been there for the last two days and am very impressed with the hotel and mall even though it's just only a soft opening. Yes, MBS is definitely more classy and organized than RWS. I'm sure you'll enjoy the IR when you come back to Singapore. On a side note, its parking rate is at $8 per hour. $15 for the first hour even you let them valet.

But I guess the prices would be very hefty.

How much would a meal for 2 at these restaurants expected to cost?

I think the hefty parking charges and $100 entry fee are clear signals that the Singapore government is sending to Singaporeans that they are NOT welcome at the casinos.

If one has visited the casinos in Vegas, I don't think you would want to visit the ones in Singapore.

In Vegas, cheap food (even by S'pore standards, & I mean US$10 mega buffet dinners), and loads of free parking.

henny, the size of land make a big different lor my frd.... I dun think the carpark fee and $100 entry fee is to reject SG'reans la.... I would say is more like is to prevent "curious" SG'reans from entering the casino just for the sake of see see look look but ended up becoming a gambling addict. Eg like young adults, under-grad/graduate, housewife, mid/lower/No income ppl to deter them away.

As food wise, there're still many option ard that area :) But ofcos, if 1 can effort to pay S$100 entrance fee, dun think they'll mind the price of the food there...lol

Disagree. My friend has been to the Vegas and Macau casinos many many times and he absolutely raves about the Marina Bay Sands casino. It is evidently world class and not a disguised Genting casino! LOL. There are many new jackpot machines too and the gambling hall has lots of space. So I think judging from his comments they have indeed introduced a completely different level of industry standard into SIngapore which Sg has not seen before. That is a plus point. I saw what the CEO said on CNA that they are attracting a different kind of clientele from the Sentosa IR and that their success does not rely on the failure of the other.

I am so looking forward to visiting it.

About the restaurants, these are super famous names descending upon SIngapore. It will put SIngapore on the world culinary map. They are like branded names like Gucci or Tom Ford for food. I am excited for that too. Tetsuya in Sydney is not a cheap restaurant and the same applies to WOlfgang Puck. But these cannot be compared to the free buffets in Vegas lah. Cheh!
