spitting on ur slippers, isn't that an offense? report to police? You must be living outside Singapore. Spitting is not an offence, even if I have the video footage and the police view it, they can do nothing. This is amazing Singapore.

The best solution to this issue is to talk nicely to your neighbour nicely and find out what is the root of the problem. Have you tried doing this? |

Prohibition against throwing refuse, etc., in any public place
17. —(1) No person shall —
(a) deposit, drop, place or throw any dust, dirt, paper, ash, carcase, refuse, box, barrel, bale or any other article or thing in any public place;
(b) keep or leave any article or thing in any place where it or particles therefrom have passed or are likely to pass into any public place;
(c) dry any article of food or any other article or thing in any public place;
(d) place, scatter, spill or throw any blood, brine, noxious liquid, swill or any other offensive or filthy matter of any kind in such manner as to run or fall into any public place;
(e) beat, clean, shake, sieve or otherwise agitate any ash, hair, feathers, lime, sand, waste paper or other substance in such manner that it is carried or likely to be carried by the wind to any public place;
(f) throw or leave behind any bottle, can, food container, food wrapper, glass, particles of food or any other article or thing in any public place;
(g) spit any substance or expel mucus from the nose upon or onto any street or any public place; or
(h) discard or abandon in any public place any motor vehicle whose registration has been cancelled under section 27 of the Road Traffic Act (Cap. 276), any furniture or any other bulky article.
source: http://statutes.agc.gov.sg/non_version/cgi-bin/cgi_retrieve.pl?&actno=Reved-95&date=latest&method=part
(search for "spit")
i guess when they made this act, they forgot about what comes out from the mouth? the act only covers the nose. maybe spitting is not covered under this Act? I always thought spitting is an offence, same as littering.
using the law against him might not be the best, he can always change his pattern. One horrible neighbour of mine used to purposely blast his sound system to irritate neighbours. He would simply blast his sound system, then go out for shopping or what, come back a few hours later. So, even police come and knock, also useless. A very notorious neighbour to have uh? i think a better way is to be friendly to them, taking revenge will just escalate. But its not easy to be nice to someone who spitted on ur slippers rite? :)

thanks for the reply. i'm at my wit-end. i try talking to them 2 years back and only got spew vulgarities and door slam in front at my face. after that i have not spoke to them however their nuisance acts continue..for instance, slamming of their main doors even past mid night, tearing down the cny decoration at our main door during cny, pouring white powders on our shoes outside etc..... if u see my avatar...it a vertical standing sofa...place by them previously in the common area...anyone experience more insane things than this?...this is only 1 of the object they have placed previously....and not the only sofa.... my neighbours are sikhs, big size and of course they see my parents and me smaller size than them ...good to bully lor...... anyway the slippers belongs to my father, he is use to putting it outside..to him, it easier to wear when he go down outside...i told him to bring in but he refuse....so he gets spit on his slippers.... even if the only 1 pair of slipper is not outside, we still get disgusting spit outside our unit.....extremely unhygenic to me....and not a good way to start a day stepping out of one home...... we went to the sub court thrice. call the police more than 30x during the 2 years plus endless correspondences by emails, and also 2 MP visits...also turns out furtile.....so now i still get disgusted by the spits...just sunday, i call the police and they came twice....even sundays are wasted on them..... i guess there no solution to my problem........=( cos i have adopt virutally every methods, advice etc..... |

we have only 1 pair of slippers outside...belonging to my father..when he wears it and go down the staircase, there no sound.
they also have slippers outside...and when they walk down they step on the floors to create loud noises...i have some video footages of them actually stepping hard on the floor too...intentionally......my neighoburs are sikhs and all of them don't even have an O level...that kind of explains their uncivilised manner...and inconsiderate acts towards neighbours....us..plus other neighbours.

Hi Green, yes, its sad when you have this kind of neighbours. The horrible neighbour i had, i heard that he is a retired lawyer (from Israel). So not true that with education, u will become civilised. :) based on your description, seems like you have done everything that could be suggested. Solution wise, i guess i have nothing to offer. In this world, many of such abnormal people exist, sometimes i wonder why also... |

Green, I don't know if you can take them to court for creating emotional stress on you and your family. Maybe, you can consult a lawyer on this. |

Hi Green
Here's what I think you can do, but it will take time and patience...
Start a blog. Just blog about the nasty things that they will do, blog in a way without any personal emotions attach and just report the facts as honestly as possible. Overtime, the blog will get more and more entries (which is sad) and soon enough, the press will wanna feature you.
I think only by making these people famous then it will knock some senses into them.

shift out? since cant change neighbour, you might consider to change your environment to shift away. maybe rent to dozen noisy and rowdy foreign workers and you rent other place to stay with your family in the meantime, await your term of minimum occupation period and sell the house back to HDB. |

gimz, u have such neighbours too? but i guess at least they know when to stop. btw saying O level is too high for them. I doubt they even have PSLE. Their son actually went to a special school. The most educated among them...so doubt they have even PSLE. Generally educated people are more reasonable. also i agree with u, i guess u understand, there nothing more i can do....just trying my luck here and see if someone can offer me a solution:) we have ENDURED them for 2 years. ivan, not possible..firstly it not in our characters and behaviors to do such things. furthermore they are very aggressive people and will lead to more disturbances on us later. surfers pal, i think u know best. i consulted a lawyer and it seem throwing money and may get nothing out of it. rohacell, blog is too time consuming and doesn't suit a low tech guy like me. i have posted some videos footage of their act in youtube thou. ahthen, that a feasible solution to me. but my stubborn mum feel why should we move when we do no wrong?...i think she feel the money on renovating the place is wasted if we move..old people are like that....got to respect her wishes...otherwise alot of grumbles..headache too. |

yah gotta knock some real sense into them! I once told an indian man when he spat right infront of my Mum's stall (selling desserts) I was so pissed that I scolded him right there!! He was so arrogance! I told ya to follow me to the police station! I dragged him aside and he said go lah! Then while we walked half way... he ran off! hahaa |

Green, Have you try calling the New Paper? They usually like this kinda story line. I guess if you want to make them famous, this is a better way than starting a blog. Show the newspaper all the slippers/ police reports that you have, confirm make front page :P |

money can earn back mah...but staying with such neighbour slash off precious years of our life. wasting time and energy to "fight" with them, that even worse than wasting money. dun wait until they splash oil and lighted matches..by then too late le. |
