Apple's iPhone 4 costs up to S$630 in Singapore
By Mustafa Shafawi | Posted: 27 July 2010 1708 hrs

SINGAPORE: Apple's iPhone 4, which will be available in Singapore from Friday, will cost up to S$630.

What you end up paying depends on the two-year price plan you take up with the phone.

The 32GB model will cost S$360 at both M1 and SingTel with a S$56 monthly price plan.

Over at StarHub, it will cost S$380 with a S$58 monthly plan.

The device will cost you the most - at S$630 - if you are only willing to pay S$38 monthly with StarHub.

It will cost S$620 with a S$39 monthly plan with SingTel or a S$36 plan with M1.

The iPhone 4 32GB model will cost you nothing with a more costly plan ranging from S$198 to S$205 offered by the three telcos.

The iPhone 4 16GB model will cost between zero and S$480, depending on the subscription plan.

And the new 8GB iPhone 3GS, which will also be introduced in Singapore on Friday, will cost up to S$360.

The three telcos plan to start selling the iPhones at midnight on 30 July for pre-registered customers who will be contacted.

SingTel has chosen to roll out its launch at a convention hall at Marina Bay Sands.

M1 will launch it at its flagship store at Paragon, and StarHub, at Plaza Singapura.

Actually i find iphone 3GS is good enough for those changing/upgrading their handphone set... I still feel iPhone 3GS looks better then iPhone4 as is the original
"Apple" style looking... and more importantly it does not have antenna issue :)

emit-zai... dun think any patch can solve the prb as an hardware issue which apple already admit that...

The thing is out of 1.7mil set sold on it's 1st launch early this year, only a handful had make a complaint on this issue.
So is either not a "very big" prb or ppl who got it is able to cope with it... :)

There is a simple solution to rectify the antenna problem. Avoid hand contact to the bottom left hand side of the iphone set. Of course this is not possible because how else do you hold the phone? So to avoid such contact, Apple provides a rubber sleeve which fits around the perimeter of the iPhone 4. This completely solves the problem.

Sharing some apps on my recent Must-Have list:

These are either Free or on sale for 99cents only!

== GAMES ==
Doodle Find (Free or Pro for 99cents)
Hidden object game. The screen gradually fills up with lots of little images - beat the clock - find the objects as stated - share scores via Facebook. Great for quick games!

Plants vs Zombies (Full for 99cents)
You know it.. plant plants to fight off zombies on your backyard

Monster Mayhem (Lite or full for 99cents)
Monster slashing game. Something like Plants vs Zombies - Protect your gate against zombies, except you slash them with knife, machine guns, bombs etc

== LIFESTYLE ==
DBS Shopper (Free)
New app from DBS - has all the shopping coupons ranging from fashion to electronics/gadgets! It's the #1 Lifestyle app now so is easy to find. Same concept from DBS Indulge, the dining app, if you rmb - coupons that you can redeem right from your phone

ILoveDeals SG (Free)
From SingTel, probably one of their best so far..was ranked in Top 25 last week or so. Basically a credit card dining app, combining all the credit card offers from DBS/POSB, Citibank, UOB, OCBC. There was just an update this morning with HSBC and Stan Chart added!

Both has some sort of cam viewing feature, supposed to tell you the nearest offers when you use your phone camera to scan the surroundings - pretty cool - but maybe can enable some form of filtering on the cam view?

== MUSIC ==
Ringtone Maker (Free or Pro for 99cents)
#1 Music app to create your own ringtones! I've been doing it the manual way using iTunes but this app just make everything easier. The free version is good enough for most purposes unless you want to play with the pitch/speed

'Summon Auntie' phone app alerts drivers to parking attendants
Thursday, Aug 18, 2011
AsiaOne
By Adrian Lim

AN iPHONE application which alerts Singaporean drivers of parking attendants in the vicinity of their vehicles has been created by a local start-up.

Summon Auntie, affectionately named after the middle-aged women who patrol public car parks checking on motorists’ parking coupons, was made publicly available on August 9, coincidentally on Singapore’s National Day.

The free app works by having users tap on the “Park” function when they physically park their cars, which logs in their GPS coordinates to a secured server.

Whenever a parking attendant is spotted within a 200-metre radius of the location, a notification is sent to the user, which reads something like “Summon Auntie has been spotted 20.3m away from your car!”.

The sightings of the parking attendants are dependent on other users who tap the app’s location-based “Alert” function whenever they spot a ‘summon auntie’.

Since people started downloading and using the community-driven app a week ago, more than 5,900 “Alerts” of parking attendants have been sent in, and over 13,900 notifications sent out to warn drivers of parking attendants.

Summon Auntie, which was created by web and mobile development studio replaid, was first thought of in June and took the five-man team a week to build.

replaid’s Sales and Marketing Manager Ron Wee told AsiaOne that Summon Auntie was not designed to help motorists to beat the system.

“Summon Auntie will never be a means to avoid a fine or a summon which is duly deserved,” the 25-year-old explained.

Rather, the app is an avenue whereby drivers can better manage the usage of their parking coupons. To illustrate the point, Mr Wee gave the example of how people sometimes unwittingly extend their stay in one place, like at a coffeeshop, and neglect their expired parking coupons.

By receiving a notification from Summon Auntie, they are reminded to return to their cars to tear more coupons.

He likens it to a modern-day replacement of the ‘kopitiam (coffee shop) auntie’ who warns her patrons when she spots a parking attendant.

The replaid team has been more than pleased with the response to their “pet project”, which is currently the most popular free lifestyle app on Singapore’s iTunes store.

Mr Wee said the app’s highly localised feel gives it a unique shine.

Besides the “Park” and “Alert” buttons in the app, there’s also “Kena” (hit), which lets users share their woes of receiving a parking ticket on Facebook.
