There are many websites offering coupons deal...Groupon, deal.com, moccaperks etc

I'm very tempted to buy the travel coupons...there are travel deals going for $50 per pax to China (exclude airfare) !  But are they genuine ?

Anyone who bought the coupons can share their experience ?

Thanks !

haha, I'll most probably try a local deal first...not enough guts to try overseas deal yet.

btw, I just bought a coupon for an elderly friendly phone for my mother. Let me try it out first and share again :)

The coupon for the elderly friendly phone is real ! I just redeemed it today and the supplier was pretty nice and helpful. No attitude shown.
I would definitely try this daily coupon thing again ! But for travel deals...hmm, maybe need somemore time to have more confidence to try :)

For travel deals, you may want to see which is the tour agency offering the package. I've tried 1 tour package coupon and the tour agency keep telling me cannot find date to form a group to go. From May to now, still cannot find date. So frustrating.

Maybe those purely hotel deals is safer ?

For those overseas deals, better check all T&C carefully. Quite alot of complaints.

But for those small ticket items like coupon for restaurants, shopping ,etc, are ok one.

These travel deals come with alot of tie downs. In order to use the coupons , you may have to use their accomodation or local travel group or utilise only within their recommended shops.

I think Groupon stuff is definitely genuine. If in doubt I would contact the place for which you have the coupon and ask if they have some sort of cooperation going on.

Many of the prices are actually marked up alot.
I have tried several aircon company on these coupon deals things
and they only come wash filter etc.

I feel a waste of my money.
I would rather go to Google and serach for aircon servicing to get real company who really do their work.

I am a fan of coupon deals haha personally have tried everything: from food to travel packages and products. My favourites are Groupon, Deal and Streetdeal. For travel wise, I prefer Groupon and Deal. The places I travelled which are bought through deals are Bintan, China, Batam and Genting. The companies are actually reknowned, like Five Stars Tour and WTS Travel. Many people feel purchasing travel tickets online are very dangerous because it is not safe. One point that people overlook is that the total amount for the deal does not include the airport tax and air tickets. I would advise to call the company before purchasing the deal. If there is no company shown, I would definitely not purchase. The date for oversea trip has been an issue all along, therefore, it would be best to contact the company and ask everything that you need before purchasing. Some companies saves your time by booking travel dates through email instead of going down in person. For me, if the deal includes air tickets, I would go down in person. I guess there are pros and cons in coupon deals. But contacting the company before purchasing the coupon deal will be better and an assurance for yourself.

those "groupon" deals are real but just that its hard to find your ideal slot as usually those travel agency has a limited weekend slot agreement with the hotels. For example I bought a coupon deal to Batam, we have to wait until 3 weeks later before we get to claim it.

Hence my take is that, its better we go without coupons for travel

Hi luxcan, yups the slot agreement with travel agencies is one disadvantage. But I am kinda used to online deals, therefore, I will still continue to go for coupons for travel. My procedure would be to call the travel agency even before booking the tickets and ask for the available dates. Once I have confirmed, I would go down in person to their office and book the dates. It is more assuring to go down and see how and where is the travel agency. Or the best, go down to the office without purchasing the coupons and book there directly haha

haha i like this method as well! Somemore to the smaller travel agency, this will also means that they get to save the extra commission fee especially companies like Groupon will take in at least 50% commission :)

Haha I don't know how much Groupon really takes in for the commission, but what I don't like from Groupon is when I want free and easy, they provide tour groups, when I want tour groups, they provide free and easy. And some are not optional, I can't choose haha

interesting topic..my personal experience and views..

- established food outlets - tried, ok, no strings attached
- tried one buffet - first time - sucks big time, maybe that's why need advertising
- Goods - sometimes marked up, saw store selling at same price as groupon price
- short trip - booking alrite but eventually did not go due to personal reasons.

Personally would avoid beauty, hair etc esp if v cheap.
1. they will cross sell
2. if overwhelming response, what kind of service do you expect?

With no prejudice, I feel that those companies who tried to go coupon route likely to be experiencing bad business. Of course there are exceptions. Some 'deals' also are not really as cheap as they sound - other promos eg. credit cards, may get you the same price.

Nevertheless, still interesting to browse. you'll never know when you'll chance upon a really good deal =)

yups, normally I would not go for deals which are too cheap to believe. For food wise, I have only purchased from food outlets that I have heard of. hehe
