Wonder of it's mid-career crisis or what...lots of my friends are thinking of quitting their jobs and opening small businesses.

One of my friend quit and opened a printing business, another thinking of becoming a freelance photographer, another thinking of opening a blogshop, another thinking of opening a childcare center...

Do any members sometimes feel this way ?

i guess it is an aspiration by most people.. afterall the education system we are in are trying to promote entrepreneurship amongst students at one point.. u never try u'll never know.. even if one fails, it is still a good experience and no regrets afterall =)

Are you a towkay since you are moderator of myhometown site.
This site own by government as they outsource public to bid..

This is headache to be employer but this is also challenge to prove yourself...
To be a general worker also good juz to be employee....after work can go jalan..jalan...
To be entrepreneur, you need to ask yourself,
-Can you able without income for half year or 1yr..
-Can you able to take hardship?

There are parents support their kid into biz and give them 200k to set up biz...
The parent normally not poor...and nowadays not many entrepreneur start from zero income...they get help from families or other source...
I get to knw some open backpack hostel and open small
Cafe....they get help from families...

Bank will not approve loan if you do not have 2 years financial record or bank statement..

If you read the newspapers, they have success stories of those in their mid 20s being Managing Directors of their "own" companies and drivng big flashy cars.

These are not real entrepreneuers, but just born with a silver spoon to have rich parents to support their setup.

You are right not many pple are real entrepreneur...I had happened to read one SME selling tyre which in the 70s..he was get loan from his father as his dad is also own other biz...or there are some CEO used to earn high income when they tired to work for people ...then they start their own biz..this is only after they work for 15-20 yrs times...

Juz like Subaru son take over family biz...dnt need to take hardship setting their own biz...
Even some young entrepreneur, when they have create innovation product, they get help from their NUS professor...

You must be referring to Glenn Tan, who at 25, was already Group Chief Executive of Tan Chong, distributor of Nissan and Subaru vehicles.

Tan Chong Motors was founded by his great grand father.

Have you come across anyone, through his own ability and without anyfamily inheritance, become a Chief Executive?

... at 25 yrs of age?

Would any company promote an employee to Chief Executive at 25, even if he or she is a scholar?

I am sick of those corporate "culture". I'm reaching 50 soon and I am thinking of getting out of the corporate environment and do something for myself. This is easier said than done. I have a family to support too. So far, I have yet to take the BIG STEP....:-)

We all have only 1 life.  Whether we are in a rich family or not, we are given the same amount of time per day.  As long as we have enough (subjective though) and happy, we should be contented.  Someone in the family line just have to work harder to provide better for the next generation.   For me, being rich is a privilege but not a necessity.  As long as I'm not deep in debt, I'm contented.

Btw, how does one measure happiness?

If I'm very rich = VERY VERY Happy
If I'm average = Average Happiness
If I'm poor = Sure unhappy?

I think happiness is just happiness....no levels of happiness....
