Yappy,

The culture is different in HK.

HK population is predominated by Chinese.

How many Muslims are there in HK?

Either way, MacDonalds is put in a difficult position.

Sell the pig and Muslims may complain.

Don't sell the pig and the Chinese complain.

Anyway, these stuffed toys will eventually end up as junk a few yrs down the road, just like the Hello Kitty craze. So many sets being put on sale o line now.

No IMO they (guessing its mac marketing dept in SG) just too lazy to do the necessary research. Mac should just fire their asses.

A simple survey done by the papers on the local populace which includes Muslims showed that not even they are offended by the pig toy if it's available. They just don't buy it that's all.

If the papers can conduct such a simple survey why can't Mac do it before performing their stupid act? Why act smart and assume Muslims are more sensitive while Chinese/Others more tolerant?

Anyway, at least they finally apologise...

Singapore is a unique scenario as it is amulti racial society.

Mac Donalds did the right in being cautious and not releasing the pig stuffed toy initially.

April? CNY over liao leh...

There is once my Muslim neighbour (family of 2 adults and 5 children) came home from a carnival and one of their children had a pig stuffed toy, apparently won from a carnival stall! The boy looked so happy! I could see the awkwardness in their parents' faces but they didnt want to upset the child with the removal of his new toy. Anyway, I let the boy choose a stuff toy in my kids' collection in exchange of the piggie one.

Aiyoh, it's only a toy!

i disagree actually. precisely this is a multi racial society they should "respect" the cultural meanings inherited from these toys. this is the cny (slash valentines) promo, not hari raya.. the fact that they have all other 11 animals to represent the chinese zodiac signs, it's preposterous (imo) to leave out the last one. alternatively, don't even suggest that this has something to do with the chinese zodiacs.. maybe half be chinese prosperous symbols and other half be valentines related.

oh well.. not that i care much hehe

despite ppl complaining, i still see the toys sold out before end of the week.
