ROMANIAN diplomat Silviu Ionescu, who might have been involved in a hit-and-run accident here, has made a U-turn & told journalists in his home country that he will not be returning to Singapore after all.

I am very mad & angry, he is guilty & decided not to come back to face the law here! The new evidence surfaces must have been a 'BANG' to him.

As I said earlier in the 'STOMP' he & his family, whether in Singapore or Overseas.. will not get any peace of mind, GOD is here.. see, how long he want to hide!

There is always karma, he too have 2 grown-up children, one fine day.. someone too will overturn on him, just wait & see!

This guy really got 'NO BALL'

well, I'm not surprized... looking at the way he left S'pore, he'll only return if he has a safe bet that he'll be found "not guilty"

As good as case close.

Whatever "investigations" that is ongoing is just a show and wayang.

Where in this world can you knock down several people, kill one, and still get away scott free.

Uniquely Singapore indeed!

Thats right - "what goes around comes around"..

Uniquely some thought by simply running away, it would be mind-free of the crime they commit or the responsibity they shrink of. But years to come, your soul or fear speaks otherwise. My deepest condolences to the family who lost their love ones..

Online petition for hit-and-run accident

AN ONLINE petition has been set up calling on the Romanian government and its embassy here to cooperate with the Singapore authorities to investigate a recent hit-and-run accident which left one man dead.

The petition also called for payouts to be made to the families of the three victims of the Dec 15 incident. There were 269 signatures at press time last night.

Research engineer William Teo, 31, who was the fifth person to sign the petition, told The Sunday Times: 'There is a need for the common Singaporean to express outrage at the entire incident to put pressure on parties on both sides. At times, things can get too clinical if we leave it merely to the respective governments.'

S'pore govt has expected the ambassador not to return. By not returning to S'pore, the govt has a better time because it claims the ambassador do not wish to come back for trial though it has done its best to get him over. On the other hand, it is made very clear to the ambassador that if he comes back to s'pore he could potentially face trail, which means he could be landed in jail. The choice is clear to the ambassador.

Thus, the s'pore govt will be able to explain to us that it has tried its best getting ambassador to come back, aka it has done its part. On the other hand, ties between romania and s'pore will not be jeopardise. This is the best outcome for the s'pore govt.

S'pore, being a small country that is dependent on world economy, cannot afford to strain relationships. Didn't we hear this for the umpteen times? js_jen, not only the ambassador got no balls, it takes two hands to clap. Get wat I mean?

Police investigations reveal Dr Ionescu was driver of car that hit 3 people in Dec
By Shaffiq Alkhatib, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 27 January 2010 1430 hrs

SINGAPORE: Police investigations have revealed that Romanian diplomat, Dr Silviu Ionescu, was the driver of a car that was involved in a hit-and-run accident on December 15 last year.

The accident resulted in the death of 30-year-old Singapore permanent resident, Tong Kok Wai, and injured two others.

Deputy Principal Senior State Counsel Lau Wing Yum told the Coroner's Court on Wednesday that the state will "lead evidence that 49-year-old Dr Ionescu is criminally concerned in causing Mr Tong's death".

The court heard that the car from the Romanian Embassy hit Mr Tong and another pedestrian, 24-year-old Bong Hwee Haw, as they were crossing the road at a traffic junction of Bukit Panjang Road and Bangkit Road, at around 3.10am on December 15.

Instead of stopping, the car sped off. It hit 18-year-old Muhammad Haris Abu Talib at the next controlled junction.

Mr Lau told the State Coroner Victor Yeo that the traffic lights were in favour of the pedestrians in both instances.

Mr Lau also said that Dr Ionescu made a 999 call about 30 minutes after the accidents to report that the car, a black Audi, had been stolen. Police investigations, however, revealed that the car wasn't stolen.

The vehicle was recovered at around 11am that day, locked and abandoned at 21 Sungei Kadut Avenue.

Mr Lau said the right side of the car front windscreen was smashed. The front bonnet and the driver's door were dented.

Dr Ionescu left Singapore for Romania on December 18 - as he said that he was seeking treatment for health problems.

All three pedestrians who were involved in the accidents were sent to the National University Hospital.

However, Mr Tong, who suffered fractures to his right leg and skull, succumbed to his injuries and died on Christmas Day - 10 days after the accident. His widow, Yenny Young, has engaged prominent criminal lawyer, Subhas Anandan.

Mr Bong has engaged a team led by N Srinivasan from Hoh Law Corporation. He wants to be compensated for the injuries he sustained.

Mr Srinivasan told reporters that his client, who has already returned to Sarawak, incurred hospital bills amounting to nearly S$50,000.

The pre-inquiry conference for this case will be held on February 24.

The coroner's inquiry will begin on March 3. At least 35 witnesses will be called at the inquiry.

to allow the prime suspect to return to Romania while the investigation is in progress is a very bad move by the relevant authorities

samliucs, no need to detain him, juz need to impound his passport... for serious cases (manslaughter) like this, impounding passport is logical... he can still enjoy his human rites

Allow me to ruffle some feathers here.

We love to see justice being executed on others.
What happens, if that man is your son, your one and only dearest son?
Will you rally with others, "Hang him! crucify him?"

Was the wrong doing wrong? Of course, it is extremely bad and wrong, no doubts about it.
So, you want to see him dead, punished, slaughtered.
What makes you so sure, he is now not punished and already experiencing death in his heart and mind and even bodily?  There is a conscience in every one of us. For example, one might had kiilled someone and ran off with billions of dollars to another land. He is now free, free to enjoy life with all the money he had, but very likely it is not the case. His conscience is punishing him, every moment in his life, sickness and even diseases begin to manifest in his body, he cannot put on a smile, not to mention to enjoy a meal or have proper sleep.  He cannot show his love to his loved ones anymore. He is like a walking zombie. Isn't this punishment worst than an instant death?
Yes, we have to execute justice, but we must understand a little deeper, and have mercy.
We must not love justice without mercy and love.
Hate the sin, but love the sinner.
Please do not shoot me down for my humble opinion, as I'm 16 only 16.
I am too young to fall in love, and I am too young not to know.
Love you guys
