But dont blame the milk lah. Kids need milk to grow. The calcium is important for bone growth. Just make sure he brushes his teeth properly. Use soft brush. And learn the proper way.
lieblingsg,
thats the prob you see. as what the Dr. told me. We are treating our 2-3 years old kids like baby which we should not. Yes give them milk but not during their sleeping time. Cuz this is the time where most of the damage is being done!! I never know this till now. And yes I've checked with some Doctors, they acknowledged this. Well... also to suckle on the bottle at this age is not good. Dr. asked me to give Zach milk preferably from a cup!!
She recommends FRESH MILK.
But I am still not doing away with formula, But I will moderate the amount and frequency per day.
Hope Zach is better now.
Thanks for sharing.
I did not realise that feeding 2-3 yr old kids milk at night can damage their teeth in the long term.
They probably need to drink milk at night.
What is the best way to get over this (maintain teeth)?

I can understand how the poor kid, Zach, is feeling... when I had my toothache, I had sleepless nite everyday, everytime when u lie down onto bed, it starts salivating and the nerve breaking sensation refused to go away... sorry siron to hijack ur thread, juz wanna "educate" some users here regarding dental issues... btw, I had toothache last week, saw the dentist last Friday, he took an X-ray and see nothing wrong with the tooth... he reckoned that it's an over-sensitive tooth, and suggested therapy (I'll explain more later) and if it doesn't work, I may consider root canal... with a sensitive tooth, the outer layer of the tooth had worn off, leaving the 2nd layer with some fine nerves... the therapy is simple, apply the toothpaste (those with a certain type of chemical to "patch" the hole) on the sensitive tooth for 5 minutes b4 rinsing it off... I'd tried the therapy, the 1st day, the tooth is still aching, the 2nd day, it feels better, the 3rd day, the pain is almost gone... so for those who have sensitive teeth like me, do try this therapy, it works, I'd used Sensodyne (not advert okay) PS: hoping for a speedy recovery for Zach :) |

Thanks cyc. Zach is all good! :) It was only after 8 days that he is finally not complaining of pain! 8 days was hard man. Cried and cried all night. hardly any good sleep. Well ... He's sleeping soundly now. :) I have sensitive tooth too! I think I will try your recommendation! Twice a day? |

dentist said do it at nite b4 u go to sleep, but I reckoned u can do it as often as u like... I did that a few times a day when I'm not working... rite now, the problematic tooth is not aching anymore and not affecting my sleep but I can still feel a bit of nerves when using that tooth to chew, so I'll continue to do the theraphy till it's completely back to normal... maybe my nerves' oready damaged? dunno :/

Sensodyne works well for me... Oral B is pretty good too... for far, these are the only 2 brands that don't give my teeth problems... update on my theraphy : my problematic tooth is back to normal now, now I can bite and chew with it :)

I've got sensitive teeth too.. there're so many brands/ versions of toothpaste in the market so I didnt know which to choose, could only rely on ads shown and the packaging labels.. so I ended up trying Sensodyne - for sensitive teeth + whitening version. After finishing half a tube, it got worse! Then after seeing my dentist, he told me that there's no such thing as a combined formula for both sensitive and whitening that would be effective! He advised that I should only use Sensodyne Original (the one in pink). He said the whitening component would only worsen the sensitivity condition! Well I've since switched to the original version and then the pain & sensitivity did reduce over time, but definitely not entirely gone yet. I'm not sure what my dentist is true but based on personal experience, the original version definitely does work better for me :) |

yup, my dentist didn't recommend Sensodyne whitening as well... he recommended Sensodyne Total... there were 4 Sensodyne type in the pamphlet, I'd asked him to recommend one, he looked at Whitening and said "nope, not this one", then he circled "Total", and said try this. |

I have very sensitive teeth. My dentist recommended Elmex Sensitve with Aminfluoride and Elmex Sensitive mouthwash without alcohol. They work very well on me for years. These are for adults. Not sure if they are suitable for children and also don't know if they are available in sg. |
