With the upcoming IR in SIngapore, comparisons with Macau are bound to arise. Will we match up to the Las Vegas of Asia? I have seen Macau transformed physically from something rather LC (low class) to something very very glitzy. Of course, all thanks to the very big boys from Vegas themselves who transformed the industry into something more respectable. But Macau is not just all gambling. It has fantastic shopping and restaurants and a few tourist attractions to interest the non-gamblers. I am starting a thread so that we can eventually compare the Sands Casino in SIngapore with those in Macau.

This is why I find Macau exciting! A screen shot of the winning combination I had once at the Venetian! Yay. This is a 10cents machine and so I hade a total of HK$20,961 which is about S$4k or slightly less. I was down to only HK$300 or so and then I won this one! Yay! I am not a hardcore gambler and so I dont play with the professionals at the card tables. I just play the pokie machines for entertainment. It is expensive entertainment but this I can say... its cheaper than seeing a prostitute. LOL!

I am sure when Singapore IR opens, Sands will bring in the exciting slot machines to Singapore. In fact, do you know that these slot machines are the biggest money spinners for the private clubs in SIngapore? With the IR coming, a significant source of income of the private clubs will be affected. But I digress. The subject of this thread is Macau.

You get to Macau from HK by taking the Turbojet catamaran or the Cotaijet. They bring you to 2 different parts of Macau. Turbojet goes to the original main strip of the city whereas the latter brings you to the new strip in Taipa. The Sands, MGM,Wynns and Lisboa are located in the original strip. Whereas the new boys on the block, Venetian and City of Dreams are found in Taipa. When in Macau you can go casino hopping and migrate from one strip to the other.

This is a pic of the Taipa strip. Thats the venetian on the left and the City of Dreams on the right. The City of Dreams comprises the Crown, Hard Rock Hotel and the Grand Hyatt.

The Venetian complex is really humongous. It has 2 towers of hotel rooms, a hugee shopping centre, the largest casino hall in Macau and so many restaurants I forgot how many. It is also connected to the posh Four Seeasons Hotel. I suppse, the IR in Singapore will be something like this. Afterall, it belongs to the same company that owns Venetian Macau. The Venetian in Macau is itsellf a copy of the Bellagio in Las Vegas.

The thing aboout the casinos in Macau (or Vegas for that matter) is that each tries to outdo the other or at least offers a different atmosphere distinct from each other. The venetian is a piece of art! The building is a replica of the grand buildings in Venice itself and they did such a good job of it!

Lieb, interesting thread! Seeing the transformation of Macau after the injection of casino business, we wonder what Singapore will become, once our IRs in full swing in the next few years! I guess 2nd wave of property boom is sweeping our shore again!

Inside, it is just as grand. There are 2 reception areas in different parts of the complex. It is so huge it takes quite a while to walk from one end to the other. The reception area has high ceilings and the walls are adorned with paintings of the real venice. This is the main receptian at the main lobby (I think the East entrance).

The main lobby adjoins a grand dome with a passage that leads into the gambling hall. The dome and the ceiling of the passage are adorned with elaborate frescoes which are evokes an inevitable awe in every visitor. This is the elaborate dome. It is almost like wh would see in the Vatican!

Hi Paolita and Uncle Joe. Yes, I love macau. To me it is a very interesting destination. Here is a shot of the fountain under the main dome. It really looks thoroughly european.

The lion on the left is part of the fountain under the dome and in the background is the passage that leads to the casino. Notice the frescoes on the ceiling of the passageway.

I dont have snaps inside the casino itself. Photos are not allowed. But trust me, it is huge!! I want to see the SIngapore IR to see which one is bigger. In Venetian Macau you have hundreds of tables in the gambling hall and at the periphery you have extensive areas where hundreds of slot machines are arranged. You can get lost in there!

In the mean time, I shall invite you into the rooms. When you do macau, you either do it as a day trip or you stay overnite. If you stay, you can rest in seriously large rooms! It is an all suite hotel! Note the decor is very european classical. It is almost like being in real venice.

If I remembered correctly, Marina Sands will have gondolas within the mall as well.

Aaaahhhh….  Personally feel that prostitute is an outdated word and has lost its primary objective. Wellness consultant will be more appropriate.

Please do not deprive the biological needs, regularly services it with a good dosage is paramount to a healthy self, but on the other hand this one armed strong machine will drain ones financially.

Macau will emerge as the undisputed champion, leaving all these aspiring wannabe countries trailing behind, simply because it has enormous scale. Las Vegas Wynn’s chief once challenged and warned our authority that S’pore will be by passed.

The locality of Marina Bay moved Wynn’s Steve to tear while he was surveying the site for the IR competition, from the presidential suite at Fullerton. He remarked, “ The site was so surreal, surrounded by three sea view and it synergies with the down town and the Art Centre. Why stop at one? Should open up the entire site to more casinos.” was his last message to us.

LOL...  Sands and Venetian are under the same group...  As per topic, I went to Sands Macau prior during their opening and depsite not being a gambler, I won some money from the slot machines.  Don't ask me how I won as their lines are pretty complicated sometimes.  -_-
