First was the closure of Eng Wah Cinema.
We all waited and waited and hope for some other players to come take over it (hopefully another cinema) but they didnt came.
Then today, it was noted that even popular bookshop is closed and nope they werent close for stock take or whatsoever as their shelves were been removed at this very moment.
So I went to google a bit and reaslise that since Mar 11, Sun Plaza had been put out for sales.
Hopefully, its next owner would really planned properly and let it rise like our neighbouring town, Yishun..... otherwise, i would somehow regret not staying put at Yishun 7 yrs ago to come to Sembawang. |

I hope the new owner change it's name. There's a place at Tampines near Blk 419 called " Sun Plaza" too. A taxi driver told me when passenger tell him Sun Plaza, he need to ask : " Sembawang or Tampines?" |

I think the population in Sembawang is not huge enough to support the size of Sun Plaza. As for cinema, its not easy anymore to run a cinema. Even Sengkang which have a larger population do not have a cinema. And a few cinemas have closed down for the past 10 years. Sun Plaza and cinema need residents from outside Sembawang to come and patronise it in order to be profitable for the management and tenants. |

There are cinemas at Yishun and Ang Mo Kio too. Dont have to travel to town to watch movie. I think that is also one of the reasons why Sun Plaza's cinema close down due to close proximity of other alternative cinemas. |

Northpoint used to be small too. But now expanded. Sun Plaza can be expanded as there are empty land around it. And quite sure the interchange will be integrated with it too if there is any expansion. |

Wow, if Sun Plaza goes, it'll be sad. Worked at the macdonald's there during my early teens. Buts it's true, it's too small, and theres Northpoint, S.S.C and Causeway Point nearby, all new and renovated. If they do redevelop it, I hope they keep its quaint and simple sembawang style. And rename it, cos theres also sunshine plaza in CCK. |

Well. I actually did wrote in to K-Box to suggest opening an outlet in Sun Plaza, told them that the cinema has closed for a few years and the space is empty since. But looks like K-Box also know Sun Plaza is not profitable. Thinking of moving out of Sembawang, but now prices too steep to move. *sigh* |
