I can't think of what to do this year. Can share what are you having?

The usual.... STEAMBOAT> The easiest to prepare...
Every year we will have steamboat plus bbq... a combination of both.

Steamboat and Peng Cai will be nice. :)

We will cook very traditional Hokkien food, we will cook sea cumber and "shun gua" which my mum started her preparation1 week ago to wash the sea cumber and slice the "shun gua" till very fine... is alot of work but we did this every year cos most of my relatives love my mum's cooking and oso the only chances to have a traditional hokkien food.

Then come to 2 days be4 CNY, my dad will hand make Ngo Hiang.... he's very good at this... the ingredient include fresh prawn, nga hiang powder, "wu hua" meat, water chestnut, yam powder, white pepper, "dao per" (skin for wrapping nga hiang), and 1 secret ingredient ---- "ti boh" (is salt fish to bake under charcoal until it is super dry and hard, then need to pound it into power form, super troublesome <<< i was task to do this... usually take me few hours to do that alone)...

Then on 30th morning we will make our all time favorite "poh piah" .... ingredient include carrot, "bang guang", prawn, cabbage, "dao geh", egg, peanuts powder, etc....

Hahaha just name them only oso make me hungry liao.... heeee

er... pandan, preggie can go bai nian de hor? no pantang right?? can i go your house for visiting????

It is good to have your reunion dinner at home.

The prices at Restaurants are a sinful rip off.

normally split dinner...cos some 1 sibling needs to return msia with her msia hubby, then another go to her inlaw house for dinner...
but then again, we always having dinner together at home after work, so we dun really have a proper sit down ALL together dinner.

Somemore with 4 kids on tow, i dun really like to have dinner outside too as too noisy with kids running and cant eat in peace, my inlaws would be busy tending after the grandkids and not eating in peace, which to me, defeat the purpose of eating ALL togehter..

i usually eat with just my inlaws only on CNY eve. anyway, everyday also needs dinner too.

at times we do have CNY reunion at home with charcoal steamboat. The steamboat comes with a big funnel hole in the middle to slot in charcoal. Being hokkein, my mil makes ngo hiang too, stew lor duck with soon kua too.

ahthen... we share the same hokkien food huh... ngo hiang and soon kua is a must have food in CNY.. ^^ u shd try my soon gua... mine very special de... my dad slice them until very fine till the soon gua like can machiam melt in yr mouth.... best best ..... usually 1 big pot finish within 3days...

ahthen, u see... boss panda is inviting us to his place... lolz.. let's meet 3rd day of CNY liaoz.. dun wait liaoz.. jio mama n gang... go there HUAT AH !!!

It is good to make your own reunion dinner if you have time and help at hand.
This year our reunion dinner will include extended family and in-laws, so it will be catered.

For 1st day, we go vegetarian and my mum will be making her 2 specialty dishes which we eat every CNY -
vege pot (at least 15 types of vege) with fermented red bean curd, and fermented black beans with old ginger.
It is so appetizing that CNY is the only time when the kids are willing to eat lots of vege and rice.

Think is interested i getting ang bao too beside eating... LOL!!!

We have to side aside another date for reunion dinner with my mother's family....
