adidaem - I am not getting one from Clei this time round. I know the prices they charge for the wall bed in Sg is pure criminal. I got a heart attack when I was quoted S$25k. I did mine previously at a fraction of that, about S$5k, and another half of that for shipping. Anyway, since my friend is on a budget, we have decided to buy the components ourselves and my contractor, Kenny, will fabricate the shell for us at a fraction of the price. This is a first for me and so watch this space. The components for the bed mechanism can be bought in the market. It will set you back by about S$3k.
Looking out for the bed! Yeah, even after 'discounts', the price at Smootree was fairly shocking.
Reno looking good! And yes the epoxy finishing looks better. But the original pic had a rough textured finishing that gave a nice contrast to the tiles. Do you know what was the material used for that? |

I hv been busy lately with my birthday weekend in Macau. Got myself a free room at the Conrad Hotel at the Sands Cotai Central. It's not bad but not as nice as the Mandarin Oriental Macsu though. Hired a car with a driver and played tourist guide for a friend and his family showing him the sights of Macau. I'm surprised by the wealth of info I have about this place. I could even tell him the history of the Macao per-Vegas style casinos! Because I was here then! Lol. Anyway some progress to report. The partition between the WC and the shower has been erected. |

The partition has also been tiled up using same cappuccino tiles. These were obtained at a fantastic sale at the Builder Shop. My friend did not want the bathroom to be clad in all the red tiles. |

Personally I would hv preferred to use more of the red tiles but what to do, he has bought the cappuccino tiles. That is the problem when you manage other people's project. You don't hv absolute control of creative choices. Lol. But the use of the cappuccino tiles is a cost cutting measure. |

They hv also put up the false ceilings. At least the beam in the middle doesn't look so jarring now. But look on the left side of pic. I realized that the dining ceiling was not as I instructed to be in reflective steel. I ordered them to stop that. So those stuff on the left hand side will be dismantled and replaced with steel mirrors. I hv intended the entire side to be a reflective ceiling so the ceiling will disappear. And this I shall have. |

Contractor shop drawing of the galley wardrobe. These are 2 sets of wardrobe opposite one another separated by a 1 m wide corridor. They will be located at the original site of the kitchen. So I set of wardrobe will be against the wall and the other one opposite it firms a dividing wall between the master bedroom and the wardrobe area. The wall of the wardrobe that faces the master bedroom will hv the AV center for the bedroom and do a tv will be mounted on that side facing the bed. We hv decided to use ceiling hung sliding doors for simplicity and to cut down cost. Initial plans were more fanciful but it had been varied in the name of cost saving. The internal configuration of the wardrobe maybe amended slightly but this wardrobe would emulate those found in 5 star hotels. In particular the bar for hanging clothes will hv LED illumination that will shine light on the hanging clothes when the door is opened. I steal this idea from the wardrobe of the Ritz Carlton HK hotel suites. |

The laminate for the sliding doors of the wardrobe is Corda Makasar. My Fren chose this laminate. It has vertical busy patterns but it's ok as this will be almost like a feature wall. And the line the wardrobe passage on both right and left. There will be floor lighting and it shd be quite interesting with illumination from the floor lights. But my friend has also decided on some busy patterned laminate for elsewhere in the flat. I'm hvg a very hard time to convince him that in public areas of the flat busy patterns hv the tendency to distract and shrink the flat. I always adhere to the principle of "less is more". |

My friend has decided to keep the rubbish bin door undisguised. It will be under the vanity. Once the vanity is installed it will be less conspicuous. |

The bedroom window and the partition wall between bedroom and toilet. The wall here will comprise vertical strips of wood. The vertical strips of wood will provide a kind of "Designed look" and a feature wall of sorts in the bedroom. That space on the right Of the pic will also be filled up by the sliding door! |

We hv decided not to hv the wood panelled ceiling. This will shave off $4/5k of cost!! Instead we will hv a protruding false ceiling with alcove lighting at its perimeter. This false ceiling will hv wood laminate as its surface and so the original plan to hv the woody look for the bedroom remains intact! The wall for the bedroom has been leveled up in readiness for the bricks. |

The swivel doors got the bedroom at its entrance hv also been changed to top hung accordion doors! This will also shave about $4k off the quote!! So now we will not hv wood panels that swivel as doors at the entrance but just a folding door that stacks against the wall. In the picture below you see the partition wall between the kitchen and the wardrobe area. The 1m wide door is the corridor between 2 sets of wardrobe opposite one another. |

You can see the doorway into the wardrobe area on the left of this pic. There will be sliding doors into the wardrobe area so that when opened the light from the back windows will still visible from the front part of the flat. |

Fortunately that wall bed fits just nicely under that stupid beam. Sigh of relief. Here is a sample of the white bricks for the wall on the side of the kitchen. |
