Advertising Strictly limited to Classified Sections

We have experienced an increasing number of members who violate the "No-advertising" Rule in MyHomeTown.SG
Some of the recent examples are:
1) Advertising through signature in main forum posts
2) Advertising through comments in Videos
3) Advertising through Avatar (putting contact information in the picture)
4) Asking for interested clients to contact him/her through PM
5) Posting in Chat
6) Creating a month-long event in the calendar
I would like to re-iterate to potential sellers to
restrict your sales / business development activities to the Classified Section.
In future I would just delete the post and ban the member.
No warnings would be given or helping to move the post to the Classified Section would be done.

how about disallowing signatures? I saw Charles' posts are all moved to classifieds. He seem harmless though. |

I'm pretty disappointed that Charles choose to violate the rules of the forum. He has been pretty helpful to the members all this while, but then he should not choose to put his contact number in his signature. We have to be fair in treatment to potential sellers, that's why I moved his posts to classifieds. Trust me, firstly, it's not an easy decision and secondly, the process of moving the posts is also a painful one. |

think if flipper allow certain innocent looking advertisements... not fair to the other advertisers..
personally, reason why i like this site is coz it's not taken over by advertisements :) |

flipper, I support u with the decision to ban those that violates the rules, especially those with < 10 postings... I'd seen some users making one post, and the 1st post is to post advert in the main forum, quite a pain in the a... neck hehe |

flipper.. maybe u should set a rule... must provide more details to join and members without any new posts or have not log in for more than 6months, will be automatically suspended? coz seems like lots of "phantom" members. |

We don't want to get more details from members, because that may deter interested members from joining the forum. On your second point..no point suspending those members because anyway they do not log in ! :)

If so many people come here just to sell, then this site is just like any other classified ad forum. No kampong spirit anymore. |

That's what I like about MHT, it's the kampong spirit. We help each other, not everything also sell and make money. |

yes... but no much diff from constantly posting anonymously and members have access to [H] forums, which makes the point of have such forums redundant. or perhaps filter out those who do not log in or post for a long time plus have less than certain number of posts :p |

All adverts to post under the Classified section.
Note admin warning in the very 1st post:
