wow why so many shops selling tau sar piah along balestier?

My guess:

1) History
Chinese were living in this area, especially the Hokkiens. Therefore, there're many hokkien temples and food (Tau Sar Piah is a Hokkien pastry) here. Note that Whampoa Rd in the vicinity was named after Whampoa Hoo Ah Kay - one of the early Chinese pioneers in Singapore.

2) Publicity
Over time, people know that Balestier Rd has many Tau Sar Piah shops. People would generally come here to buy. Thus, there's no need for publicity. u wouldn't go to Orchard Rd to buy tau sar piah cos it's hard to find, could be more expensive and may not taste as nice. Similarly, nobody goes to Balestier Rd to buy Zara clothes cos there isn't any.

Also, people are curious. They may buy from different shops to see which is nicer ;)

"tau sar piah" itself is a Hokkien word
