I think there is no school in cantonment district. The nearest one is Zhangde Pri and 1.1km from P@D.

I need to register my son in Jul 2010. So I am also concern about this topic. Why no School? Then P@D residents how ah?

My daughter is born 2003 so have to register her for Primary 1 this year as well.
We are currently staying near Vivo city and I am an old girl at MGS.
So will register her there but we just bought a place in Cantoment and is now wondering where to register her...
Maybe will still register her at MGS and ask to be place on the wait list for SCGS?!?

No, no. SCGS is near to Newton.
There are no girls school near Cantonment except SCGS and CHIJ Kellok.
I am quite lucky that my daughter is in Phase 2B for both MGS & CHIJ Kellok.
Several of my friends recommend me to place her in MGS but its so far away.
So they recommend another good school near Cantonment, which is SCGS.

SCGS is greater than 2km away from P@D, probably 4km away. I think you need to move within 1km to have a better chance.
CHIJ (Kellock) is within 2km of P@D.

Heard that friend's friend donated $20k++ (2007 price) to get his kid into one famous primary school along Bt Timah Rd. Sad but this is reality in Singapore today.

The reason many of the primary schools around the area were closed down is due to dwindling population of kids in the area. The area used to be home to famous primary schools like Pearl's Hill School, Pearl Park Primary School, Pearl Bank Primary School, etc. from which many notable figures graduated. Now that the govt wants to rejuvenate the area and with high-end developments sited in and slated for the area, we should expect MOE to reverse the situation. To speed things up, shall we organize a petition to MOE to start a new primary school in the estate? One possible site is old Keppel Primary School across Cantonment Road. It's been converted into some office building during the boom, but I think there are not many takers after the recession started. I'm sure there would also be demand from young couples with children in Cantonment Close, Spottiswoode Park, The Sail, The Carribean and in future, 1 Shenton and The Reflection.

I simply HATE the education system we have here in Singapore. Imagine being a Singapore citizen DO NOT have any priority as compare to those Singapore PR. Our kids stand the same chance with the SPR and also Why Do we have to PAY the School or even do charity for the school to enroll them.

Bottom line, Shouldn't the MP's or the MOE e looking at this topic at all... !!!!
So What does Singapore citizen enjoy in the Education beside the so-called subsidize from the GOV...!!!
Why is this topic NEVER being brought up in the parliament???!!!!

If mama is from IJ and you are going to a IJ school in which you are not a old girl, then your child must be baptise to be in Phase 2B (same phase as PV).
